Water Savvy

The new Village Voice guide-mag, Savvy, reads like the editorial team was infiltrated by a stealthy Sea Level operative.  The current issue focuses on fun things to do in New York this summer;  you'll know it by the cover shot of a woman in scuba gear doing some sidewalk flower-admiring.  Or by the way it drops out of your dead-tree copy of the Voice as you're trying to balance during a rough subway ride.

Inside are short pieces on water sports (learning scuba at Pan Aqua, canoeing with the Gowanus Dredgers), plus a getaway to Montauk, a rundown of three great oyster bars and a list of summer beach reading

On the dry side of the human-powered transport scene, there's information on finding a folding bike that will meet your needs.  Two options they didn't mention: the Brompton, and the Brooklyn-based Swift Folder.

Pick up the paper version of Savvy and you'll see a paragraph (with a small map) on the Bobby Wagner Walk, a walkable/bikeable trail that runs up the East River from 63rd Street to 125th Street in Manhattan.
